Calling all San Francisco voters!
Prosecutorial reform is hot right now.
Progressive district attorneys like Larry Krasner (Philadelphia), Rachael Rollins (Boston), and Wesley Bell (St. Louis) are shaking things up in the criminal justice system. They’re pushing for rehabilitative solutions and addressing systemic oppression and inequity. Dismantling mass incarceration takes a village, and voters are more involved than ever in local district attorney elections.
RogueMark Studios teamed up with immigration defense attorney Raha Jorjani to create the short animated film: “The Need for Prosecutorial Accountability.”
The film poses the question: how can the most powerful player in the justice system have the least oversight and accountability? Real Justice PAC endorsed the film, with civil rights activist Shaun King calling it “beautiful.” (Swoon!)
The November 5th district attorney election is right around the corner.
And you (yes, you!) can shape it. “I want to communicate to [voters] that they do have power and they can make a difference,” Raha says. “Prosecutors only have the power that voters give to them.”
So take the time this week to find out who your DA is and what they stand for. And go vote!
San Francisco residents: what are the values you’d like your district attorney to uphold? Here’s a link to the city election website!
